Philippa Signs Off

Not just only another Deafblog!!

About me

Why have I created a new blog? What triggered me off?

Well I got to say is the UK Parliament is proposing a new Bill to become an Act of Parliament, into practice by summer 2008. The Bill is to prevent from disability genes to be passed onto embryos. (More information and links about this in catergory HFEA)

This caused an international outcry among the Deaf community.

When I first found out about this Bill, was through a friend by face to face in Denmark. After intensive research on the internet to find out more about this Bill, I was horrified to find out how serious it was affecting not only Deaf people but many other disability groups.

What infuriated me even more was the lack of media response and awareness of this situation amongst the Deaf community in Britain. Deaf people all over US are giving their supports and ideas on how to help with this situation whereas the actual Deaf British people do not know anything about this situation!

So I sat down and thought, Thank god (metaphorically) that I has found out about it from a friend even though I am not in UK at the moment, Denmark (Frontrunn3rs), if it wasn;t for that person who told me, I might be still living my life completely unaware of this situation and then finding out when the time comes that I won’t be allowed to have baby if it has a deaf genes. I will be kicking myself in the future if I don’t do something now. And I thought howcome very few Deaf people in Britain know about it.

Then I realised that what was missing is the actual media communication to you all, face to face. In this case we would have to settle for Vlog, (video version of blog) as of course I cannot go all around UK meeting people personally (unfortunately) my bank would kill me if I did that! :P

Why did I choose this name- Philippa Signs Off… well in the hearing words would be “Philippa Mouths Off”, as seeing that in this vlog all is signing.. so “Signs” would be more appropricate! This title was given by a good friend of mine, he threw many different titles and encouraged me to set up vlog, so many thanks to R.A for giving me the support and encouragement!

Me, myself and I… All you got to know is that I am proud to be Deaf.
“Nothing about us without us”
Growing up in a Deaf family where British Sign Language was GOLD to us.
Facing hardship in early school education before moving to a school for the Deaf, and from this I was given a key to enter my world.
